The no-boarders is dynamic. I've never seen another comic do such a thing. :)

Here's some blather as to why borders are so common:

Different newspapers put different importance on different comics. So the newspaper likes to have some flexibility in how they can format comics, so they like ways that they can reshape the comic.

Bill Waterson wanted to have a full half page so he could do whatever he wanted with the space, and lost some newspapers in the process.
